I like this one. It works better in black and white than the original color.

You can also clearly see the change in color about a third of the way up the Washington Monument in the background. Posted by Picasa

From what I can remember from a tour guide, I think it's because construction stopped for around 20 years in the mid 1850's, and so the stone from the quarry looked newer than the old stone when buildind restarted. I can verify the first part on Wikipedia but not the second part.
