School

Just finished my Substantial Research Paper (sort of like a master's thesis), entitled "Political Parties in Taiwan, South Korea and Japan - A Comparative Perspective". Now just one more paper to produce by Thursday and I'm done with writing, and nearly done with my master's program. Woo hoo!

In other news, I am looking for a job. That takes a lot of work too.

Ok, back to work now.

The Cognitive Style of PowerPoint (Edward Tufte)

Isn't this commentary on PowerPoint brilliant? And Stalin says "next slide please"... (May need to click the image for a legible version).

From Edward Tufte, professor and author of many books on the presentation of data -- analytical design -- including the book from which this print comes: The Cognitive Style of PowerPoint

DC Cherry Blossoms

DC Cherry Blossoms with Jefferson Memorial

I like the composition of this picture, but I was using my old camera (the Casio Exilim) and the lack of quality (lack of sharpness, lots of compression artifacts, poor color) really bothers me. I think what I'm learning is that image quality is not just about how many megapixels you have (my Casio = 4, Sony = 10), but also the quality of those pixels. When zoomed in to 100%, the Sony blows the Casio away. But I suppose that's to be expected for a camera that twice the price and 4 years newer.

Washington Memorial - the Casio did really well on this shot.

This was the snow we got on the Saturday before Easter, after temperatures had been up to the 70s the previous week.
